Gallery at 12 welcomes new member Val Fenton
A great pleasure to walk into Gallery at 12 this morning to see new work hanging on the walls be new member Val Fenton - some fabulous screen prints.

Exhibition extended
If you read my post on Tuesday 8th May you would have seen the fantastic photographic work by Richard Greswell and the lovely jewellery by his wife Carol. Their work was being exhibited in our Gallery for the whole of May and we are happy to say that we invited them extend their exhibition into June so if you haven't been in to view their work there is still time!
Richard's profile
'I have taken photographs for over 30 years but only recently since my career as a research scientist ended, have I been able to devote my time and interest to digital photography. Whilst landscapes and the natural world are my favourite subjects I enjoy creating images using various styles and influences from graphic design to contemporary themes.
Good landscape images are created by interplay between natural forms and light, where location, weather and timing successfully combine in order to encapsulate and convey the mood of the scene, softness or strength of the subject. To further this concept I often utilise a variety of post processing approaches to enhance and distill the sense of time and place whereby the image may more strongly communicate the intended mood to the viewer. By controlling the elements within the image, such as composition, detail and tonal range, the essence of the image and hence it's message may more powerfully be conveyed'.
Carol' profile
'I have always had a fascination with jewellery but have only recently begun to make it myself. On a recent trip to Cornwall I was entranced by jewellery made from sea glass: remnants of glass tumbled by the oceans. On seeing similar beads I have started to make necklaces and earrings branching out into different types of beads and designs,using colour, shape and wire to enhance each element. I enjoy all aspects of the craft and am beginning to experiment with semi-precious jewels and metal work as my confidence and artistic skills develop.'

Three years and going strong!
Three years today Gallery at 12 opened it's doors to the public for the very first time, It had taken three months of planning to get to that stage and we had no idea if we would last three months, let alone three years, so it is a massive achievement for us to have got this far!
I would like to share with you my personal view on our journey to this point.
The seeds for Gallery at 12 were sown around 6 years ago, when a group of artists including Bob Thacker and myself got together with the idea of taking Staffordshire art out to the County. It never got off the ground, apart from a couple of shows at one small village festival, the seeds then lay dormant for a couple of years. Then three years ago last January or February I was listening to Radio 2 when the Jeremy Vine show started up, he was talking about a group of artists who had got together and had started to use a shop on Dursley High Street to showcase their work, I was only half listening but I began to realise as the show continued that these artists were doing something we had been talking about doing two or three years earlier, so I had resolved to phone Bob later to discuss things with him. On my way home, however, I had to stop off at our local bakery and who should be in there but Bob and his wife, I have to say this was not expected as Bob doesn't live in the same village as me and it is the first and only time I have ever met him in the bakery!
Their reaction to seeing me took me by surprise, I was greeted with 'Hello - we've just been talking about you!'
I laughed and replied by saying 'you've been listening to Jeremy Vine'
Bob then replied 'Not only that but as a result we have been to Eccleshall and found a shop - would you be interested?
Well what could I say.
'Absolutely Yes!!!'
and the rest as they say is history -
The Staffordshire Artists Cooperative was formed and we managed to raise interest with several artists, some stayed, some decided that it was too much of a commitment either financially or time. but by the time the Gallery was ready for opening we were seven in number, excited for the future and at the same time slightly anxious about what would happen over the next few months.
Over the last three years 3 of the original 7 members have left for legitimate reasons but even more new artists have joined us.
Yesterday we held a celebratory Open day aimed mainly at potential new artists and hopefully as a result we will see some more artists join us in the next few weeks or months, the future is looking good.

New exhibition for May

Our gallery has had a bit of a make over
After a couple of recent exhibitions for our 2D artists we have been able to introduce some new paintings into the gallery and re hang many of the other paintings - a couple of our artists spent most of a Sunday doing so and it is now looking even better than before.
I have selected a few items to show you but this is by no means all of the new work, hopefully though it will give you an idea of the art work we have and make you want to come in and take a look - so next time you are driving along the M6 and see a sign for Eccleshall you might just decide to turn off and come and pay us a visit - you will be very welcome and then you might also choose to visit one of the cafes, or pubs for something to eat too and take in some of the other lovely independent shops along the High Street!
